Right to Livelihoods

Arigatou International underscores the need for communities to develop sustainable livelihoods, as means to prevent, reduce and end child poverty. Our End Child Poverty Right to Livelihoods Programme seeks to support ways through which caregivers of children affected by poverty – including parents, guardians and youth-headed households – can generate income and other forms of capital required for a decent means of living. It also involves mobilising and supporting faith actors and their communities, towards the provision of humanitarian aid relief, as and when needed.

Our results

Through our livelihoods programme, we work with strategic partners, to move highly vulnerable children, youth and women care givers into sustainable livelihoods and toward economic stability. As result, our partners from the Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ecuador, Kenya, Malaysia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda have in the past initiated and carried out activities and processes aimed to strengthen livelihood opportunities, particularly for youth and women care givers through training on entrepreneurship and life skills; support with initial assets and temporary cash; and the establishment of formal Self Help Groups.

End Child Poverty is also assisting partners on their advocacy and campaigns efforts against economic inequalities and for inclusive access to livelihood assets and services and promotion of child sensitive social protection.

We are currently in the process of revitalising and expanding this Programme to mitigate the livelihood challenge which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and in turn threatens to push more children into deeper poverty
