Childs Life International, FECCLAHA and Bare Care Centre

Three organisations held various Childs life events in different parts of Kenya. The event activities included inter-faith prayers and presentations by children on self-defense, cultural songs, dances and poems about child poverty eradication, community meetings, youths training and donations drive.

Activity Recap

Childs Life International - Kenya organised a children’s event themed, “Education is the Weapon to End Child Poverty”. The event activities included inter-faith prayers and presentations by children on self-defense, cultural songs, dances and poems about child poverty eradication. The event was held in Kibera, the largest informal settlement in the country, which has a high population of individuals and
families living in poverty.

Bare Care Centre commemorated the IDEP by holding a community meeting. The communitygathering was designed to form a platform for discussing alternative forms of building sustainable livelihoods for persons living in extreme poverty, and in particular, children living with disabilities. Bare Care also made plans to provide wheelchairs to children living with physical disability, to conduct further advocacy and to organise a polio vaccination drive

FECCLAHA (The Fellowship of Christian Councils and Churches in the Great Lakes and Horn of African) organized a 2-day youth training for Training of Trainers on Voluntary Loans and Savings (VLS) and Introduction to the Learning To Live Together (LTLT) program of Arigatou International-Ethics Education These activities took place in Mukuru slum, in Nairobi and involved 33 youth leadersfrom the FECCLAHA Youth Peace Building Programme and 3 adult facilitators. The event was geared toward enabling the youth leaders to mobilise and manage financial resources, so as to be socio-economically empowered. The youth leaders would also, in turn, reach and train their peers across the 14 peace clubs which currently have 411 youth members.
