International Young Catholic Students - Africa (IYCS) and International Movement of Catholic Students (IYMS)

Both Catholic movements working with and through the youth in seeking to address social justice issues affecting the less privileged in society, led several activities including celebrating Mass and offering prayers for children, especially those affected by poverty.

The movements also mobilised the students to take part in donation drives as an act of love and charity, in honour of their motto “preferential option for the poor”. In addition, the movements organised roundtable discussions in their various national and pan-African universities in which they deliberated around the End Child Poverty International Day for the Eradication of Poverty theme, “Together We Can End Child Poverty Worldwide”. An estimated 4,000 persons, including 2,000 children, were reached through these International Day for the Eradication of Poverty events across the African movements.
