IDEP Impact


For the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, officials and staff from Shanti Ashram accompanied by volunteers visited several schools and colleges conducting  awareness campaigns.

Volunteers were divided into groups and were sent to different schools.At each school the volunteers performed an interfaith prayer during the school assembly and the school students were given a brief introduction about IDEP followed by a pledge which was to be taken by all the members. Finally the students were given awareness about reduction of poverty and different methods to reduce poverty.

The event was marked in collaboration with 32 institutional partners throughout India, reaching out to  over 18,000 children. The activity started with an introduction on IDEP followed by an interfaith prayer and was concluded with a pledge taken against Child Poverty.

The children and youth also conducted collection of food grains and the proceeds were distributed to children living with HIV/AIDS, vulnerable elderly people and families. 

  • One of the impacts of this years’ IDEP campaigns in India  was the introduction of the Pamphlets for the Food Bank.
  • Support from the partnering schools in regards to the Food Bank throughout the year and;
  • 10,000 greeting cards will be sold to raise funds for the Balashanti Fund for Child Development.
