“Poverty is the Worst Form of Violence” – Mahatma Gandhi
The Cry of a Young One, a partner of Arigatou International – Nairobi, gathered over 250 children and youth in a colorful celebration held during the World Day of Prayer and Action for Children on 20th November 2015, also being the Universal Children’s Day. Supported by End Child Poverty, the event sought to address poverty as a form of violence against children.
Amid music, dancing, drama presentations, youth fashion show and conveying messages of encouragement to the children, The Cry of a Young One facilitated prayers for the children living in poverty, in Mathare and its greater environs within Nairobi.
The parents and guardians of the children were not left behind, each glad to be included in the celebration of their children’s achievements and committing to work alongside The Cry of A Young One to prevent and stop violence against all children. Even the power black-out did not deter the contagious smiles of the children and boundless energy as they went out to share a meal at the close of the event.
Arigatou International, through its initiatives, supports advocacy, awareness, networking and service-oriented activities during the World Day of Prayer for Children every year. Find out how you can take part at Prayer and Action.
