“Refugees are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children, with the same hopes and ambitions as us; except that a twist of fate has bound their lives to a global refugee crisis on an unprecedented scale,” said Mr. Khaled Hosseini
Every day war forces thousands of families to flee their homes in order to escape the violence. They leave everything behind, except their hopes and dreams for a safer and brighter future.
This year the UNHCR has launched a #WithRefugees petition which aims to gather public support for the growing number of families forced to flee conflict and persecution worldwide. Now is the time to show world leaders that the global public stands with refugees. The petition launches today with the goal to send a message to governments that they must work together and do their fair share for refugees.
The petition will be delivered to UN headquarters in New York ahead of the UN High Level Meeting on Refugees and Migrants, scheduled for the 19th September. The petition asks governments to:
- Ensure every refugee child gets an education.
- Ensure every refugee family has somewhere safe to live.
- Ensure every refugee can work or learn new skills to make a positive contribution
to their community.
So on World Refugee Day we ask you to join us in taking action by signing this petition and let our world leaders know that YOU stand #WithRefugees.
