Right to Nutrition

“Every child has a right to healthy, adequate, nutrition food.”

The Right to Nutrition to ensure that all children have access to safe, nutritious and adequate food, all year round. In this way, key drivers and root causes of poverty – hunger and malnutrition – can be effectively tackled. In addition, our work around children’s right to nutrition aims to affirm and strengthen the cultural and spiritual, religious or faith identity of each child, including, by promoting reflection on their respective cultural and spiritual, religious or faith traditions that promote healthy eating and nutrition.

Our Results

Today, more vulnerable children are becoming malnourished due to the deteriorating quality of their diets and the multiple shocks created by the COVID-19 pandemic and its containment measures. In 2020, UNICEF and its partners tipped that an additional 6.7 million children over the edge to become wasted during its first year, as a result of the pandemic.

In response to this urgent need in the lives of children, we work with members of Arigatou International’s Global Network of Religions for Children GNRC) and other strategic partners, particularly at grassroots level. As result, GNRC members from Colombia, Cuba and Mexico have initiated and carried out activities and processes aimed at alleviating malnutrition in children. Likewise, we supported the Project Nutrition+  which spearheaded by the Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Working closely with these partners, we aim to contribute to mitigating the malnutrition challenge in children which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and in turn threatens to push more children into deeper poverty.
